Susquehanna Rowing Association will be hosting Learn To Row Day. The event is held at Gifford Pinchot State Park Boat Ramp #3 in Lewisberry, PA and is sponsored by US Rowing and Concept2.
You can register here. Click on the “Register Now” button on the right hand panel.
Participants are given the opportunity to learn about rowing and get a chance to row a stable recreational single in a closely monitored environment and are also typically given the opportunity to go out in a double with a club member for a short row. Some land stations are also used to introduce the aspects of the sport.
There is no charge and it is open to the first 20 registrants. It is typically divided into two time periods 8-10 and 10-12 that morning. Participants are guided thru the different stations and have the opportunity to discover more about rowing. The whole process takes 1-2 hours according to numbers of participants and when you arrive. You need to certify that you are a good swimmer to be part of the club.
The club provides all the equipment necessary to row. You need to dress appropriately for the weather, but loose fitting jackets, jewelry and the like are to be avoided as they can conflict with the oars. Water shoes or flip flops are needed as the boats are wet launched at a small gravel beach area. Expect to get wet in the normal course of rowing and dress accordingly.
